Robotics Summer Camp

TAMPA, Fla. (April 12, 2017) — Middleton Robotics is pleased to announce its returning partnership with Suncoast Credit Union. The partnership includes financial support of the school’s after school and summer robotics programs, as well as allows the annual robotics summer camp program to be offered to up to 48 students in the Tampa area, with many qualifying for scholarships.

Middleton Magnet High School’s world-class robotics is an after-school program that enables students and professional mentors to design, build, program and test robots. Participants then enter to compete with teams from around the world. The robotics program, established in 2004, has served over 1,000 students and has won more than 100 awards, including a world championship.

In addition to competitions, Middleton robotics organizes and operates an extensive community outreach program, providing demonstrations and lessons to youth across the Tampa Bay area. In 2016, the program performed more than 2,000 hours of community outreach.

Another major outreach program is the annual robotics summer camp, Camp Middleton, staffed by the school’s robotics team. Camp Middleton offers two programs for students. The LEGO® level is for elementary school students and uses the LEGO® EV3 platform to bring robotics to life. Students learn basic robotics concepts, as well as design, build and compete robots using the LEGO® EV3 platform. Students also receive guidance and instruction on what it takes to be successful in competitive robotics through the FIRST Lego® League (FLL) program.

The Vex® level is for middle school students and rising high school freshmen and uses the VEX® EDR platform. Students learn intermediate and advanced robotics concepts, as well as design, build and compete robots using the VEX® EDR platform. Students also receive guidance and instruction on the VEX Robotics and FIRST Technical Challenge (FTC) programs.

Camp Middleton dates for 2017 are July 17-20, 2017 8:00am – 2:00pm every day at Middleton High School.
