This is a TEAM workshop designed for a coach and their team members. Bring your ‘work-in-progress’ robot and/or laptop. Ask questions and get constructive feedback. Review missions and attachments you might be considering. This is also the opportunity to ask some questions if you are having problems with programming.
This is a TEAM workshop for coaches and their team members. We will talk about what the Core Values are with students and they will participate in a mock teamwork activity and we will provide feedback using the FIRST LEGO League Core Values Rubric. Teams will then have the opportunity to discuss the scoring and what they can do to get ready for the season. A great prep if your team will be going to a qualifying tournament.
Research is the single most important aspect of FIRST LEGO League. In this workshop, we will provide details on what makes a good research project. Additionally, how do you present your research to the judges. If your team has project and/or presentation, we will have judges who will provide direct critique and tips to help you improve.
West Florida FIRST LEGO League Region Orientation
This is our most requested Q&A topic, so we’ve asked our FIRST LEGO League Partner, Ms. Desh Bagley to be available for a Q&A session for teams! Coaches often ASK “What can my team do to make it beyond the Qualifying Tournament?” Join our panel discussion of FIRST LEGO League veterans on the specifics of tournaments and what it takes to be successful. What really is important for you to know to get ready for tournament the season. We’ll help you prepare your team, clarify the rubric and up your game! Bring your questions.
Train to be a FIRST LEGO Judge / Referee
There will be a push this season for FIRST LEGO League teams to provide an adult volunteer at tournaments to assist with Judging/Refereeing. This is your team’s opportunity to send one or two parents to training at Workshop Day and be ready to go for the season. They will also learn the secret handshake. (just kidding) Learn the FIRST LEGO League Rules and Game Rules for this year’s game so you can volunteer as a Tournament Table Ref or Judge this season. Door prizes will be awarded at each training session.
These activities will be dispersed across campus and will allow teams more opportunities to learn about FIRST LEGO League and how to make their team successful. There are no assigned team time slots. Please note that some of the activities will have limited hours of operation.
“Tell Your Story”: This will be an opportunity to talk with a judge to provide a 90 second “elevator speech to describe your team and what makes it special. This is very helpful as it is often a technique used by judges at tournaments. This is a walk-up activity
“Ask an Expert”: Teams will have the opportunity to discuss one on one with professional experts in the field related to this year’s challenge. The number of experts and times available will be provided on workshop day. This is a walk-up activity.
“Beyond First Lego League”: Teams will have opportunity to talk to FRC and FTC students and interact robots to see what FIRST programs are available beyond First Lego League. Want to drive a FRC or FTC robot? – this session is for you. This is a walk-up activity.
“I Need More CV”: Teams will have opportunity to complete additional Core Values challenges and talk to judges about the importance of core values in FIRST. This is a walk-up activity.
“My Robot and I Need Help!!”: Teams will have the opportunity to meet with referees and technical judges at the practice for a more in depth discussion of missions, techniques, and best tips of the trade. This is a walk-up activity.
“Make-A-Button”: Teams will be able to design and create their own button. This includes using the button machine to stamp the button. NOTE: There is a $1 charge per button to cover supplies cost.
